Project Overview

JESCO partnered with Airbus Americas, Inc. to deliver a 90,000 SF, four-bay aircraft hangar for the A220 series. Designed as a double-loaded hangar, two bays are accessed from the west and two from the east, maximizing operational efficiency. This design-build project includes annexed facilities for offices, breakrooms, restrooms, mechanical/electrical systems, and support spaces. The facility is LEED Gold Certified and showcases advanced construction methods tailored to aerospace needs.

This distribution center significantly enhances Mercedes-Benz’s parts logistics network in North America, combining high-volume storage, precision inventory management, and efficient loading/unloading systems in a single, fully integrated facility.
Impact
Challenges and Solutions

One of the most complex challenges was coordinating the installation of 24 service pits. These pits are critical components that supply power, compressed air, and vacuum essential to aircraft assembly operations.

Early on, JESCO identified these components as critical path items. Daily coordination calls and vigilant tracking were implemented, but fabrication delays significantly affected the slab-on-grade pour schedule.

To keep the project moving, JESCO rescheduled the pour sequence in our master schedule and advanced concrete work out-of-pocket, allowing parallel progress despite missing components. This adjustment required close collaboration with trade partners and the creative use of specialty equipment to support overhead systems before the slab was fully in place.
